Hi I'm Zach.

I live with OCD and I became a mental health advocate after overcoming severe anxiety, deep depression and thoughts of suicide.
According to the American College Health Association, nearly 50% of college students struggle with anxiety or depression. It is within our human nature to want to help, but sometimes we don’t know how. This course will teach you how to support the mental health of the members within your organization. Why is this training beneficial for my organization?

Reduce risk internally

Imagine having designated mental health advocates in your chapter that struggling members could speak to and actually have a productive conversation that gets them on their path to recovery.

Increase member engagement

Demonstrate to your members that you actually care about their mental health and want to take it seriously.

Bolster your brand

You have the opportunity to be one of the first organizations in the country to put one of your members through this training to create a formal mental health advocate chair inside of the house.

Attract top talent

Simply put, future leaders want to know that their organization actually stands for something outside of partying and socializing.

How does this training work? It's simple.

  1. Designate a member within your chapter to be the Mental Health Advocate of the organization just like you designate a president, social chair, etc.
  2. Have that member go through this training, so they actually learn how to advocate and support members inside of the organization.
  3. Make it easy. There is definitely a member inside of your chapter who is passionate about mental health and wants to support your members. Decide as an executive board to fund them going through this training so they can support struggling members.
  4. Get started right away. Your designated mental health chair will have an entire year of access to go through the training and gain the skills they need.

Here's what you'll learn in this training...

Who am I?

My name is Zach Westerbeck. I am a mental health advocate and professional speaker who has spoken to over 20,000 college students from nearly 100 universities across the country. I am also the author of the mental health book, “You’re Not Alone”, which is a guide for 18-24 year olds to help them overcome anxiety and depression which has been read by thousands of people in over a dozen countries.

I became an advocate after being diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder in 2016. During that time I experienced severe anxiety, deep depression and thoughts of suicide. After recovering, I made it my life’s mission to advocate for others. Through my lived experience and thousands of hours researching, reading and writing about mental health, I felt it was time to create a low cost, easy to consume training for students who wanted to advocate for their peers. In this training, I will teach you everything I know about being a mental health advocate.
